For the perfect day trip, you don’t have to look any further than downtown Thorold to find that small town feel filled with historic homes, churches and downtown buildings. The City of Thorold is nestled on the Niagara Escarpment in the heart of the Niagara Region. Settled in the 1800’s, Thorold grew to become an important transportation centre along the Welland Canal system.
Stand up close to massive ships from around the world, as they move through the canal locks. Explore specialty shops, dine at the historical Keefer Mansion Inn, have tea at Ashford’s tearoom or try pub fare at Donnelly’s Pub.
Visit the Niagara Italian Festival June 18-20th at Battle of Beaverdams Park and participate in our Canada Day celebration on July 1. Step back in time on July 18th for our downtown Classic Car Show or visit the Canal Bank Shuffle Blues Festival in October. To best see the city, take a self guided historical walking/driving tour of the canal, murals and historic landmarks. Brochures are available online, or at the Lock 7 Viewing Centre.
